NumberWorks'nWords provides face to face, individualised tuition using purpose-written software to support the teaching and learning. More than twenty years dedicated to perfecting our methods have demonstrated unqestionably that the most effective way to achieve excellence is by harnessing the power of fun.

The Maths and English programs were developed by specialists in their fields and there is continuous development. To ensure that the tuition delivery is as effective as the resources we put behind these subjects, we fully train our tutors.

Our English programme is a comprehensive literacy package, combining the best approach of phonics with the whole language approach, that gives your child skills for success in reading, comprehension, writing and spelling.

Our Maths program covers all areas of the curriculum, from number to problem solving, from year one to NCEA level one.

All students coming into the NumberWorks'nWords Centre for an introductory lesson receive an assessment, introductory lesson and our take home times tables pack complete with computer games. All at no cost to you! It is the easiest way to find out more about what we do.

We are proud to offer this new addition to our business and it really does make learning fun! Students can come to develop their reading and listening comprehension. Others may be struggling with spelling. Still others may need help with writing. And of course there are those who want to improve their reading. Whatever the need, NumberWorks'nWords English tutoring covers it all. I’m continually impressed by the quality of our product, from the thorough framework, to the books (which are only found in our centres!), to the innovative software.

Owner: Fergus Cleverley

Hi I'm Fergus, the owner and manager of Kilbirnie NumberWorks'n Words since 2001.

After university I traveled and worked overseas for a couple of years, including teaching English in Japan and developing teaching resources for NOVA English School.

I qualified as a secondary teacher in 1993 and taught maths and geography for three years before returning to Japan with my partner Bridget. This time I worked in a high school teaching English for three years. Then, after a bit more traveling, we returned to Wellington.

Bridget and I ran Kilbirnie NumberWorks'n Words together for four years and now Bridget runs the Karori centre.

We also have two beautiful daughters, Sam and Kate, who keep us very busy!
