What do we mean by reading? Can we count viewing a traffic sign as reading, or examining the label of a Coca-Cola bottle? What about skimming a newspaper for information about the days programming on television or finding a suitable restaurant in the Yellow Pages?

One possible definition of reading could be: "reading is the ability to extract visual information from the page and comprehend the meaning of the text."
