Why do students try out a NumberWorks free lesson?

Alex came to NumberWorks because she wanted to do well in the Australasian Mathematics Competition.
Each year I entered and all I ever got was participation. At Columba we have to enter, so I wanted to get better than participation. NumberWorks gave me practice especially for the competition, and I got credit. Next year I’m going for Distinction.

Tom hated times tables and because he couldn’t learn them, he hated maths.
At the first lesson they showed me a trick for the 9x tables. When I passed the 9x tester they showed me a way to help with 6x. The tricks made them much easier. I worked on them at home too (using the NumberWorks@home disc). After 4 lessons I got a certificate at assembly for improvement at maths. Now I’m one of the best in my class at times tables. It didn’t take long and they made it fun.

Felicity was nervous about leaving her small primary school at the end of the year, so she came along for an introductory lesson. She liked it so much that her mother enrolled her in a holiday course.
They said I would be doing fractions. You learn things in steps at NumberWorks and that makes it easier. Louise (my tutor) is really kind. She explains things to me, and helps me understand things better. I got 100% in my Fraction Concepts Topic Test and then 100% in my Fraction Skills Topic Test too. I want to do another NumberWorks holiday course before I start Intermediate. It was good to do maths in the holidays because the teacher was surprised at how good I am now. I am looking forward to Intermediate because Mum said I can do another holiday course in January.

Confidence makes the difference

When children enjoy mathematics, they brim with confidence.
* The confidence needed to put their hand up when the teacher calls for an answer (so the teacher gets an accurate perception of their ability)
* The confidence needed to explain how they worked out their answer (so they develop the skill of communicating their mathematics – which is critical at NCEA level)
* The confidence to ask a question if they don't understand their maths.

Without confidence a child does not get the best out of their school maths instruction. They will be reluctant to ask questions because they are worried that they won’t be able to understand the answers. In tests they will often say or write nothing rather than risk appearing stupid. Giving a child more confidence makes a dramatic difference to the results they achieve.

Children who enjoy mathematics have confidence, so call us today to find out how we can make maths fun for your child.

question mark Investing in mathematics tuition

Research shows that mathematics learning is like saving for retirement. It’s never too late to start, but the best results come when you start early. The children most likely to achieve top scores in their Secondary School examinations are the ones who scored in the top quartile for mathematics in their early years at primary school. Good grades for Mathematics at secondary school open the door to a wide variety of career opportunities.

Whether your child is a confident mathematician, or having difficulty, NumberWorks will improve their mathematics. We make maths fun by providing just the right amount of challenge for each individual. Children’s confidence soars as they see the progress they are making. Everyone benefits from the individual tuition and positive atmosphere.

As the Manager of Dunedin NumberWorks says:
“Come in and find out for yourself just what a difference NumberWorks can make to your child. A good understanding of mathematics is something your children will thank you for again and again as they grow up. You can’t give them a better start.”
